Ineffective Counsel Argument Could Save Client up to 20 years in Jail

Matt Sullivan assisted in an appeal that challenged a criminal defendant’s sentence for attempted murder. The case was on appeal in the Pennsylvania Superior Court from the denial of PCRA relief. Matt took advantage of recent changes to appellate practice and argued that PCRA counsel was ineffective for failing to assert that the defendant was sentenced based on facts the jury had not found. The result could save the defendant up to 20 years in jail.
